It’s time for Winter Markets!

Holiday wreath at the Winter Market

Blue Collar Berry Patch will be participating in two winter markets this year:

Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market, Tuesdays in Ashland at the National Guard Armory on East Main Street, Nov. 28 and Dec. 5, 12, and 19, 9am-1pm.

Grants Pass Growers Market, Saturdays at the Josephine County Fairgrounds, Nov. 25 through Feb. 24, 9am-1pm.

Through the month of December I will again have holiday wreaths, garlands, and centerpieces available, and am very pleased to announce that I will have many varieties of jams, jellies, preserves, and syrups as well as dried fruits and herbs available as well. After the holidays I will continue to sell these products at the Grants Pass Market for as long as they last.

Keep an eye on our social media for more details. See you at the markets!

Summer Growers Markets in full swing!

We are back at summer growers markets for the month of August and likely much of September! Our fresh produce this season will include blackberries, plums, pears, apples, fresh cut herbs (including basil, rosemary, mint, oregano, sage, thyme, and savory), and flowers (both cut bouquets and also edible mixes for salads and decorating).

You can find us at the Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market, on Tuesdays in Ashland at the National Guard Armory on East Main, and on Thursdays in Medford at Hawthorne Park; both markets are from 8:30am-1:30pm. We will also occasionally be at the Grants Pass Growers Market as supplies allow, this market is Saturdays at 4th and F Streets from 9:00am-1:00pm. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram @bluecollarberrypatch as we will always post if we are attending markets the evening before.

Thank you for supporting local small farmers! See you at the markets!

What happened to the blueberries?

Farm update: It’s official… I think we’ve climate-ed out of blueberries in our area, this is unlucky year number three of no sellable crop. The bushes are still (mostly) alive, but even despite all the wonderful precipitation we’ve gotten this year, and hopefully normal irrigation, we are still in a drought (30% drier than normal). This isn’t good news for blueberries. We may have a crop in the future, but right now we need to listen to Mother Nature and adapt to this new normal.

So what does this mean for the future of the farm? We are diversifying our crops and planting more drought resistant/tolerant varietals. We will still remain primarily a fruit farm, but we will grow much more than just berries. I’m keeping the name of the farm as is for now, primarily because my mother worked so hard to hand draw our logo so many years ago, I couldn’t possibly think of replacing it with something new.

The good news is so many of the test plantings I’ve put in over the last few years are doing so well! Marionberries, boysenberries, thornless blackberries, figs, and table grapes are thriving, and I cannot wait for them to produce enough fruit to be able to share with you! The fruit set for our pears and apples are looking fantastic, so barring disaster I should be back at markets in August, September, and around the holidays with some goodies for you.

Thanks to everyone for your support! In October we enter our 40th anniversary and we couldn’t have done it without you!
